“Apple Records” and the 2018 SAQA Benefit Auction

If you are regular readers of  the Pixeladies blog, you know that we are big supporters of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and especially its annual benefit auction. We’ve individually bought quilts at auction, but as the Pixeladies we try to also donate a quilt every year. Last year we were unable to donate a quilt, so this year we wanted to make sure we did.

The Object

Many of our quilts deal with serious themes, but for this auction we wanted to do something fun and positive. We started riffing about the quilts we have done: portraits, pencils, shoes, fruit. Hmm, maybe more fruit? We had already done an apple for a previous auction, so we wondered if we could try an apple again. The previous one was red, so maybe this one could be green.

The Theme

Once we thought about a green apple, it was a small step to Apple Records, the record label the Beatles founded in 1968. Like many of you, we love the Beatles. We both had “In My Life”* played at our respective weddings, and we’ve been known to sing along to Beatles hits on some of our road trips. The red apple quilt dealt with the serious topic of health care (an apple a day . . .), so for this quilt we had loads of fun looking for Beatles tunes, the names of the fab four (“Ringo” can only be found in context!), and all different varieties of apples. We hope you bid on our quilt or any other one that tickles your fancy. We have our favorites, too. Click here to read about Deb’s 2018 dream collection and click here to read about Kris’. Bidding starts this Friday, September 14. We’ll “see” you there!

* “In My Life” is the epitome of a love song: simple, direct, poignant, and melodic. Take a listen. And, as wedding songs go, it worked well for us. I just celebrated 30 years with Neil, and Deb will be going on 29 years with Dave this December. In this day and age, that’s a lifetime!
