The Google Keep App

Do you keep a notebook in your purse? Or do you just write notes on any scrap of paper when you have an idea? I’m of the latter persuasion. My desk was covered with notes written on napkins, return mail envelopes, and pages from the numerous notepads I purchase but forget to put in my bag. I even tried pasting the notes into a binder. I finally realized that I’m just not a journal or binder person. If you’re like me, read on because I have discovered Google Keep, and I love it! It’s a note-taking app for people like us. You can take photos of the scraps of paper, make lists with check boxes, record audio notes, and much more.

Google Keep

This little app works on your phone and desktop. There’s even a Mac version. So instead of my desk being covered with notes, they can all reside on my phone in one place. I have lists for groceries that I buy at the local store, groceries I buy at Costco, TV shows people have recommended, and things I want to add to a new class curriculum. Because people don’t order things in the same manner, you can view all your notes in a list or in tile format.

Share Lists

One of the many nice things about this program is you can share the lists. I’ve shared the grocery list with my husband. If I add something to the list, it automatically updates the list on his phone. Kris and I can keep a list of things that she needs to bring from her house to the studio. See the face or icon at the bottom of each list above? That shows that you’ve shared the list and with whom you’ve shared it.

Photo notes

You know all those notes on scraps of paper I have? I can take a photograph of the note and add it to Google Keep. You can  also add links or even screenshots from email. If you want to see a one-minute video on how I added a note, click on the image below.

Other Features

You can also pin lists, so they always appear at the top of your Google Keep app. For visual people like me, you can color code your lists. For techie people, you can set up reminders to notify you, if you are near the grocery store and have items on your shopping list. And, look here, my desk is now neater!
