My Love Affair With Mosaics

This is Deb. I’m in the airport right now and thinking about mosaics.* I’ve forgotten when my love affair with mosaics started. It was definitely before I visited the Magic Gardens in Philadelphia.

And before visiting the House of Shards at the Abita Mystery House in Abita Springs, Louisiana.

It was before I redid my kitchen and discovered the art of Cynthia Fisher and Sharon Loeppkky. And, no, these are not in my kitchen.

I know it was before I was introduced to Friedensreich Hundertwasser in Vienna.

I know this because by the time I discovered Hundertwasser, I had already finished my first (and only) mosaic project–a shrine to cats past and present.

Photos of Hunderwasser’s columns were the inspiration for one of my favorite Pixeladies designs.

However it started, I’m so excited to be going to going to … wait for it … Barcelona, Spain, land of Antoni Gaudí, mosaic artist extraordinaire. Woo hoo! See you when I get home!

* Full disclosure: I’m actually writing this earlier because I know I’ll be too excited in the airport to actually write a post. But, you can be sure I’ll be thinking of mosaics!
