These are a Few of Deb’s Favorite Things

Share

The bidding for our favorite auction, the Studio Art Quilt Associates Benefit Auction,* starts on September 9, 2022. As in years past, Kris and I are making our dream collections. This year eight pieces make up a collection. Usually I create a very cohesive dream collection. I start with one art quilt and build a collection around that piece. This year I found so many that I wanted to build collections around that I finally just told myself that I’m okay with a disparate collection. So, I’m calling it These are a Few of My Favorite Things. Here they are with a little explanation.

Susie Monday – Pom…Pattern

I’ve been watching Susie work with variations of this pomegranate design, and although she gave me a little pomegranate piece, I think I’d like to have another . . . or a tablecloth made from this fabric.

Judith Roderick – Raven and Butterfly.

I don’t know why. I guess it’s the whimsical, folk-art nature of the piece.

Zara Zannettino – Metamorphosis

I really like the composition of this piece. Plus, I know Zara, albeit only virtually, and I think she’d come through the ether and beat me up if I didn’t choose her piece.

Lisa Ellis – Ventanas

I just love the bright colors and sheen of dupioni silk. It ravels like crazy, so you’ve got to admire someone who would go to all this work.

Judith Content – Drifters

I have been watching Judith’s Instagram posts where she installs her beautiful silk jellyfish in the wild and just think it would be cool to have a memento.

Shannon Conley – Boxelder Bugs #2

Who wouldn’t want to have boxelder bugs, if they looked like this?

Phyllis Cullen – Pride of the Galapagos!

The patterns and colors Phyllis used to create this sea lion just make me happy.

Mel Dugosh – Easy Frieze 2

I like mid-century modern. I guess it’s because I’m from the mid-century, my parents have a mid-century modern home, and I miss all my black cats (Jose, Pete, and Barney) who have gone to the big gopher hunting field in the sky.

These quilts are just some of my favorite things at the auction. There are so many art quilts available to go to a deserving home. I hope you’ll take a look.  You can even bid on our piece, Rainbow Trout # 2.

*All proceeds of this auction help support SAQA’s exhibition programs, publications, and education outreach. Plus, your purchase helps increase the recognition for art quilts and the artists who make them, like the Pixeladies.
